At the end of March 2021 all those connected with St Andrew’s CofE Primary School, Chedworth were overjoyed as their large scale Net Zero Project build was completed. Funded through the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme they were able to obtain a £120,000 to complete the works.
Previously reliant on a oil boiler to provide its heating, the completion of this project has seen St Andrew’s move to a air (to water) source heat pump, along with installation of double glazed windows, injected cavity wall insulation, added insulation beneath the suspended timber floors of the original Victorian school building, installed new suspended ceilings in order to reduce the heated air volume of the classrooms, and installing a solar PV system on to the school halls roof to generate around 40% of the total new electricity demand.
